Anglo American Australia operates five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in manganese, as well as copper exploration projects under way in North West Queensland. Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. We are seeking an experienced Longwall Mechanical Production Fitter to join our underground production team at Moranbah North Mine. This is a hands on role in maintaining and supporting critical longwall equipment to keep the operation running safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will work alongside production, electrical, and maintenance personnel to identify mechanical issues, complete planned maintenance, and respond to equipment breakdowns. About the role Reporting to the Longwall Mechanical Supervisor, your responsibilities will include: • Performing planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on longwall equipment • Inspecting, maintaining and repairing shearers, AFCs, BSLs and powered roof supports • Maintaining and fault-finding hydraulic and mechanical systems • Diagnosing equipment faults and completing practical repairs to minimise production delays • Supporting longwall production and equipment availability • Completing equipment inspections and identifying emerging defects • Assisting with component changeouts, installations and longwall moves when required • Following isolation, stored-energy and underground risk-control requirements • Completing work orders and maintenance records accurately • Working closely with operators, electricians and other trades • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and equipment care • Contributing to a positive, respectful and safety focused crew The longwall is the mine’s primary production area, with equipment availability, operating capability and effective management of delays directly affecting coal production About you To be successful in this role, you will ideally have: • Australian recognised Mechanical Trade Qualification • Experience working in an underground coal mine • Previous longwall mechanical maintenance experience • Experience with shearers, AFCs, BSLs, roof supports and hydraulic systems • Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills • Experience completing planned and breakdown maintenance • A sound understanding of isolation and stored-energy controls • Strong safety awareness and hazard-identification skills • The ability to work effectively within a production-focused team • Clear communication and a practical approach to problem-solving • Current underground competencies and qualifications required for the position • A current Australian driver’s licence Longwall equipment includes the shearer, AFC and powered roof supports, with mechanical work involving commissioning, installation, maintenance and equipment inspections.
